Alliances & Action Partnerships

Purpose

Alliances and action partnerships facilitated by Magis Americas significantly advance educational quality, and, where needed, coverage, and to greatly expand access to training in vocational and enterprise skills in poor communities across the region.

Examples

• Our goal over the next 10 years is to equip all 2,000 Fe y Alegría schools and training centers with modern, updated computers and peripherals. Too many students in Latin America and the Caribbean have little or no access to computers and the internet. This leaves them far behind in today s digitalized economy and they are unprepared to join their countries social and economic mainstreams. We are seeking donors to help build these partnerships between the schools and North American suppliers. As little as $150 or as much as $150,000 could make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
• Regionally, the Fe y Alegría network mobilizes $250 million annually to provide high-quality education and training programs to 1.3 million people in poor communities. They have launched a "Social Pacts for Quality Education" campaign to advocate adoption of such programs by national education departments in order to reach many more disadvantaged children and youth. They are seeking partners to further develop and implement this campaign from the business sector, the international development arena, and private foundation community.
• Fe y Alegría has developed and field-tested a system for the continuous improvement of school performance. This system has proven to be highly effective and could improve the quality of thousands of public schools if adopted by national education departments. Fe y Alegria is ready to disseminate its system, and seeks partners to support national workshops, field visits, reports, and to facilitate discussions with interested governments. Ideal partners would be US foundations interested in Latin American education, government agencies, and multi-lateral agencies that could reach out to departments of departments.
• Fe y Alegría currently provides teacher training services to numerous national governments, successfully organizing large-scale training programs. Through formal workshops organized by education departments, senior officials responsible for designing teacher training in other countries could benefit from FyA's experience. In order to form this alliance FyA is looking to partner with international development agencies that could reach out to interested government officials and help solicit donor agencies to provide support.
• In many countries, Fe y Alegría vocational programs are preparing thousands of young people for jobs in the national labor force as well as productive roles in the small enterprise sector. FyA is seeking to partner with donors to expand these highly effective programs. They are also seeking alliances with corporations to supply jobs for program graduates in such fields as information technology, design and printing, apparel production, and other areas.
