Building the Fe y Alegría movement in Miami

post- 29oct

This week, the Friends of Fe y Alegría in the US team has been working to raise awareness about the impact of the Fe y Alegría educational model amongst members of the Latino community in Miami.

It has been an inspiring trip, visiting with members of the Venezuelan, Nicaraguan and Dominican communities, individuals who are committed to engaging support for Fe y Alegría schools in their countries of origin and encouraging others to do the same.

We started off at a show by Venezuelan comedian, Emilio Lovera, together with the Cuban musician, Virulo. Lovera has committed to join forces with Fe y Alegría to stand up for the right to education. Father Jesús Rodríguez Villaroel SJ presented Lovera with a t-shirt, recognizing him as an official ambassador of Friends of Fe y Alegría in the US. The Fe y Alegría team handed out bracelets and flyers as the audience rolled in, and many were excited to see the logo of Fe y Alegría after spending many years outside of their country. This reaction showed the powerful effect that Fe y Alegría has had on the lives of many, especially in Venezuela.

This event marked the beginning of our collaboration with Emilio Lovera and his team, and we look forward to working together to fight for the right to education for those living at the margins.

Throughout the week, we also had the opportunity to share the message with different business leaders and in different forums, including offering a talk at the Venezuelan Business Club of Miami and sharing about Fe y Alegría with Amilcar Rivero and Carolina Perpetuo on the El Venezolano TV program “Arroz con Mango”, which will be aired on Saturday, November 7th.

We are continuing to build the Fe y Alegría movement in the U.S. and these actions are part of some of the  first steps we are taking to create a community of passionate people dedicated to this important cause. Will you join us?
