As part of our quarterly team meeting in January 2023, the Magis Americas staff worked on drafting a statement that fully and accurately expresses our commitment to Global Citizenship as individuals and as an organization. This statement grows out of a continuing reflection on our roles in connecting local projects with global efforts for a more just world and is part of a deeper consideration of our identity as a Jesuit NGO with global impact.

Magis Americas is a Washington, D.C.-based Jesuit 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to global development. Informed by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and the Universal Apostolic Preferences of the Society of Jesus, we envision a world in which all people have their rights upheld, their dignity protected and the capacity to act as protagonists in their individual and communal development. At the heart of this vision, is our commitment to global citizenship.

Global citizenship is core to our identity and conveys our communal responsibility as part of the Society of Jesus. It calls us to build bridges which foster encounters and deepen relationships. Global citizenship invites us to work for and with marginalized communities alongside a diverse network of Jesuit partners.

Our commitment to global citizenship is demonstrated through our individual and collective actions to form equitable relationships that:

  • Promote sharing, understanding, and learning
  • Strengthen local capacity and ties to global networks
  • Encourage global participation to address situations of injustice.
